2 Volunteer Projects, Wexford, Feb 2010

Feb 15-19th and/or Feb 22-16th 2010: Join an international team of volunteers on a residential, week-long programme (5 days) to protect wildlife habitats.

Conservation Services will lead a group of international volunteers on two residential, week-long (5 days, 4 nights) programme to protect the habitats of the endangered Natterjack Toad and the Little Tern. It will involve clearing ponds, removing pine saplings prior to the spawning season and removing invasive specied from the Little Tern's nesting areas.   The projects will be carried out in the beautiful Raven Nature Reserve, south of Wexford Town and in Our Lady's Island, near Rosslare.

Volunteers can sign up for 1 or 2 weeks.

General information for volunteers:

  • Communal  accommodation will be provided to all volunteers free of charge.
  • We will provide safety equipment, work-related insurance and safety talks.
  • We will also provide transport to the site (ex Dublin).
  • Volunteers chip in together for food.
  • Participation on the project is free but we will require a DEPOSIT of €80  (Due to this programme's popularity we want to ensure that everybody who takes a place will be there.) You will get this back on the first day of the project and can use it for food etc. (Other possibilities exis. such as evidence of intended travel tlo Ireland).
    .

The things you need to bring: Working clothes, Sturdy Shoes, Rain gear. Sleeping bag and pillow and personal hygiene gear. There will be a few social outings to local attractions during the week. So some good clothes would be an idea.

Interested volunteers should contact Andy at andy@conservationservices.ie ASAP as places are limited and are booked on a first-come first-served based on deposits received.

Note: We will also be announcing 2 more weeks on Clare Island in the summer - probably June. Email us if you wish to be notified as soon as booking is open. Last year's project description is here:
